OIC Secretary General Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen
Jeddah (UNA-OIC) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) voiced its regret over the decision of the Australian government to stop its direct financial aid to the government of the State of Palestine.
This decision contradicts the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and international law, the OIC said in a statement, considering the move as a denial of the Palestinian people's right to work to end the Israeli occupation and seek the right to freedom and independence.
OIC Secretary General Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen considered such decisions a collective punishment of the Palestinian people and a contribution to increasing economic and social suffering. He urged the international community to step up support and financial assistance to the Palestinian people in order to achieve their aspirations for freedom and independence as well as the consolidation of stability and peace in the region and the world.
The secretary general also called on Australia to review the decision that encourages the Israeli occupation authorities to continue to commit organized crime and terrorism against the Palestinian people.
